What has happened to the hearts and minds of white evangelical Protestants?  Where is the notion of a compassionate heart?  What happened to Jesus’ encouragement to “love thy neighbor as thyself?”  And, how do white evangelical Protestants settle with Jesus over his words, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God” … “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.”

A recent article written by Candace E. West in Rewire.News (previously Religion Dispatches), offers startling and saddening insight.  In her article, Candace says, “Most religious groups believe that it will be “mostly positive” when the United States becomes a majority-nonwhite nation: 81 percent of Hispanic Catholics and 80 percent of Black Protestants, nearly three quarters (74 percent) of all nones, and about half (51 percent) of all white Catholics and white mainline Protestants. Conversely, white evangelical Protestants are the only major religious demographic in the United States for which a majority (61 percent) say that this change will be “mostly negative.”  READ MORE …
